The DLC was chartered in 1974 by the 7 shore line towns. Our mission is to provide leadership, guidance, and resources to preserve and restore Deal Lake and its tributaries as a healthy and stable ecosystem. In addition, control lake levels during heavy storms to the best of our ability with limited ocean tide controls.

    Deal Lake, its tributaries and watershed are regulated by Federal and State agencies. Check before you dig.

    Strict compliance with the NJDEP regulations apply to any land 50 feet adjacent to the Deal Lake shoreline as well as any land 50 feet adjacent to any stream that drains into Deal Lake.

    Property owners should contact the NJDEP before beginning any maintenance or any construction along the lake's shoreline.

    There can be consequences, including fines and time delays for proceeding with work, prior to securing the appropriate NJDEP permit(s).

    The Regular Meeting of the Deal Lake Commission was held in the Village of Loch Arbour, 550 Main Street, Loch Arbour and called to order at 7:00 PM by the
    Vice-Chairman Don Nissim. After the Salute to the Flag, the Commission Clerk announced that the notice requirements of the Open Public Meetings Act (C.231,
    P.L. 1975) were met by transmitting the notice to the Commission’s official newspaper on February 11, 2016, posting where required and filing a copy of the
    notice with the Commission Clerk.

    OLD BUSINESS

    1. Flood Hazard Risk Reduction Resiliency Grant Program – Mr. Avakian reported that the revisions to the grant were done and submitted by the September 1 st deadline. The feedback he has received so far on our application is all very positive.

    2. Beach Replenishment – Mr. Avakian said there is still no word on the funding for the gate electrification. He also reported that the beach replenishment
    project has moved north.

    3. Sunset Avenue Bridge Replacement – Sue Henderson, Asbury Park representative, said sonar was run and it came back clean with no debris. There are a few
    minor issues that need to be addressed but nothing of major concern.

    4. Bridge 11(Interlaken to Loch Arbour) – Mr. Nissim explained that the team from Monmouth University tried to run a sonar scan at the Interlaken to Loch
    Arbour bridge, but it could not get under the sewer pipe.

    5. 319(h) Grant – Dr. Souza said there is still no announcement. The DEP is running four months behind.

    6. Railroad Letter – Mr. Avakian said he reached out to Tom Clark from NJ Transit but has not heard back from him. He will try again and look to see if
    there is another contact person.

    7. Organic Material Removal – There was a brief discussion on when and what type of permit is needed to remove organic material from the lake. Dr. Souza
    said he would research it further.

    8. MTD Clean-Outs – Mr. Nissim said the Chairman will be reaching out to the municipalities to set-up a schedule to get the clean-outs done.

    9. Deal Lake Master Plan – Mr. Nissim hopes to have the revisions done and reviewed for the next meeting and the Plan completed by the end of the year.

    10. Deal Lake Commission October 2016 Meeting – The Commission Clerk announced that the October 20th Meeting of the Deal Lake Commission will
    again be held at 7:00 PM in the Village of Loch Arbour Town Hall.

    11. Geese and Weed Issues – No report.

    12. FY2017 NOAA Grant – Dr. Souza said we should submit the Grant ourselves for this round of funding.

    RESOLUTION #3 –
    Authorizing Dr. Stephen Souza and the firm of Princeton Hydro, LLC to prepare and submit the FY2017 NOAA Grant on behalf of the Deal Lake Commission.

    UPON MOTION
    of Interlaken, seconded by Ocean, carried that Dr. Stephen Souza and the firm of Princeton Hydro, LLC is hereby authorized to prepare and submit the FY2017
    NOAA Grant on behalf of the Deal Lake Commission.

    13. Report of the Sunset Lake Commission Meeting – Ms. Henderson reported that the six members were sworn-in at the meeting earlier in the evening. Dr.
    Souza and Mr. Avakian attended the meeting and each gave a brief presentation.

    Mr. Nissim suggested we reach out to the new Commission, introduce ourselves and offer our assistance.

    14. Dock Question – Dr. Souza and Mr. Avakian will work on wording for the website on the questions that residents have regarding docks on the lake.

    15. Water Testing – John Tiedmann from Monmouth University – Mr. Tiedmann was not present. Discussion to be held until the next meeting.

    16. Hollow Brook Construction Project – Mr. Nissim reported that the project is complete. The County will be putting down gravel so there will be access to
    the lake at that point of construction.

    17. Fall Clean-Up – Mr. Nissim announced that the Fall Clean-Up of Deal Lake will take place on Saturday, November 5th at 9:00 AM. Monmouth
    University is on board and will be making it part of their Big Event.

    RESOLUTION #4 –
    Authorizing the Commission Clerk to Advertise the Fall-Clean-Up

    UPON MOTION
    of Neptune, seconded by Asbury Park, carried that the following Resolution be adopted:

    WHEREAS,
    the Deal Lake Commission sponsors an Annual Fall Clean-Up to remove accumulated debris and trash from the watershed; and

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED
    that the 2016 Fall Clean-Up be scheduled for November 5, 2016 from 9:00 AM to Noon and the Commission Clerk be and she is hereby directed to place an ad in
    The Coaster and The Asbury Park Sun to include information noted above regarding the November 5th Clean-Up in an amount not to exceed $500.00.

    NEW BUSINESS

    1. Jet Ski Questions – Mr. Nissim said it appears there are no restrictions or enforcement when it comes to jet skiing on the lake.

    2. Skateboard Park in Asbury Park – Mr. Nissim suggested the DLC contact the local municipalities and urge them to send a letter to the Asbury Park City
    Council in opposition of the proposed skateboard park to be located by the Asbury Park boat ramp. The DLC will also send a letter.

    There being no further comments, and UPON MOTION of Interlaken, seconded by Asbury Park, carried that the public hearing be closed. There being no further
