The DLC was chartered in 1974 by the 7 shore line towns. Our mission is to provide leadership, guidance, and resources to preserve and restore Deal Lake and its tributaries as a healthy and stable ecosystem. In addition, control lake levels during heavy storms to the best of our ability with limited ocean tide controls.

    Deal Lake, its tributaries and watershed are regulated by Federal and State agencies. Check before you dig.

    Strict compliance with the NJDEP regulations apply to any land 50 feet adjacent to the Deal Lake shoreline as well as any land 50 feet adjacent to any stream that drains into Deal Lake.

    Property owners should contact the NJDEP before beginning any maintenance or any construction along the lake's shoreline.

    There can be consequences, including fines and time delays for proceeding with work, prior to securing the appropriate NJDEP permit(s).

    The Regular Meeting of the Deal Lake Commission was held in the Borough of Interlaken Municipal Building, 100 Grassmere Avenue, and called to order at 7:00
    PM by the Vice-Chairman Don Nissim. After the Salute to the Flag, the Commission Clerk announced that the notice requirements of C.231, P.L. 1975, were met
    by transmitting the notice to the Commission’s official newspaper on February 11, 2016, posting where required and filing a copy of the notice with the
    Commission Clerk.

    OLD BUSINESS

    Vice-Chairman Nissim moved that the Commission table the discussion and take no official action on the following items under Old Business: 2. Beach
    Replenishment; 3. Sunset Avenue Bridge Replacement;

    4. Bridge 11 (Interlaken to Loch Arbour); 5. Watershed Ambassador Report; 6. 319(h) Grant – Update;

    7. Railroad Letter – Update; 9. Organic Material Recovery; 10. MTD Clean-Outs

    1. Flood Hazard Risk Reduction Resiliency Grant Program – Mr. Avakian said that he will be meeting

    with the DEP and representatives from the Flood Hazard group on August 1st.

    8. Geese Problems – Sue Henderson, the Asbury Park representative, reported that Asbury Park did oil

    the geese eggs.

    11. Deal Lake Master Plan – Mr. Nissim feels that the public is not sure of exactly what the Deal Lake

    Commission actually does. He would like to see the Plan re-named and have it contain what the

    DLC has the ability to do, what we have done and our priority projects going forward.

    NEW BUSINESS

    1. The Commission Clerk announced that due to construction at Interlaken Borough Hall, the next

    regularly scheduled meeting of the DLC on Thursday, August 18th at 7:00 PM will be in Ocean

    Township Municipal Building, West Wing Conference Room, 399 Monmouth Road. The location of

    the next two regular meetings will be at announced on August 18th.

    2. Sunset Lake Commission – Sue Henderson said she has been appointed to the newly formed Sunset

    Lake Commission. After a brief discussion, the Commissioners told her that once the newly formed Commission has a plan of action to let the DLC know and we
    will formally send them a letter offering our assistance.

    3. Dock Question – A lake resident sent an e-mail asking if private docks were allowed to be placed

    on the lake.

    Hunt Parry, Esq., the DLC’s Attorney, said property owners should be directed to their respective local, State and Federal governments and their agencies.

    4. Oil sheen reported in Terrace Pond – A Lincoln Drive resident reported on an oil sheen that appears

    in the lake every so often by the outfall area near Terrace Pond. It was recommended that they

    contact the DEP hotline when they see an issue like this.

    5. Big Fish – It was reported that a 2.5-3 pound northern pike was caught in the lake. A picture will be

    put on the website.

    6. Weeds – Tabled until the next meeting.

    7. Dean Foods – Tabled until the next meeting.

    8. Meeting with John Tiedmann from Monmouth University – John Tiedmann from Monmouth

    University’s School of Science, has offered to get some monitoring going on the lake once the fall semester starts and he can recruit some students. They
    will be working in conjunction with Princeton Hydro.

    9. An e-mail was received from Dave Dorfman concerning wash outs in his backyard from Hollow

    Brook on Bimbler Boulevard. A letter was sent to key County and Township Departments on his

    behalf.

    There being no further comments, and UPON MOTION of Asbury Park, seconded by Neptune, carried that the public hearing be closed. There being no further
    business, and UPON MOTION of Asbury Park, seconded by Neptune, carried that the meeting be adjourned at 7:45 PM.
