The DLC was chartered in 1974 by the 7 shore line towns. Our mission is to provide leadership, guidance, and resources to preserve and restore Deal Lake and its tributaries as a healthy and stable ecosystem. In addition, control lake levels during heavy storms to the best of our ability with limited ocean tide controls.

    Deal Lake, its tributaries and watershed are regulated by Federal and State agencies. Check before you dig.

    Strict compliance with the NJDEP regulations apply to any land 50 feet adjacent to the Deal Lake shoreline as well as any land 50 feet adjacent to any stream that drains into Deal Lake.

    Property owners should contact the NJDEP before beginning any maintenance or any construction along the lake's shoreline.

    There can be consequences, including fines and time delays for proceeding with work, prior to securing the appropriate NJDEP permit(s).

                The Regular Meeting of the Deal Lake Commission was held in the Borough of Interlaken Municipal Building, 100 Grassmere Avenue and called to order at 7:00 PM by Chairman Don Brockel. After the Salute to the Flag, the Commission Clerk announced that the notice requirements of C.231, P.L. 1975, were met by transmitting the notice to the Commission’s official newspapers on January 29, 2015, posting where required and filing a copy of the notice with the Commission Clerk.

    OLD BUSINESS

    1. NRCS/DEP – Mr. Brockel explained that it appears we are still looking at a time frame of July to get the project done or we could lose the money. We are trying to get the NRCS to recognize that if we can’t get the extension than we do have some alternatives on where to begin the project that make more sense. He suggested moving the dredging location west towards the Asbury Park boat ramp and High School since we have major flow issues in that area due to Sandy.
    1. Flood Hazard Risk Reduction and Resiliency Grant Program – Mr. Avakian explained that our application was accepted but they asked for an updated Benefit Cost Analysis. We are in the process of drafting a response and he will submit it before the April 7th deadline.
    1. 319(h) Grant – Held until the April 16th Meeting

    NEW BUSINESS

    Resolution #3 – Approve a service contract with Jersey Cares for volunteer clean-up, May 2, 2015 (9:00 AM to 12 Noon) – organization will provide all materials necessary for the clean-up; authorize Chairman and Clerk to execute Agreement

    UPON MOTION of Ocean, seconded by Asbury Park, carried that the following Resolution be and the same is hereby adopted:

    WHEREAS, the Deal Lake Commission solicits the assistance of various community groups to assist with watershed clean-up and debris removal; and

    WHEREAS, Jersey Cares has agreed to provide up to fifty (50) volunteers and supply each volunteer with the necessary materials and tools to work safely and effectively for a Community Clean-Up on May 2, 2015 from 9:00 AM to 12 Noon.

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Deal Lake Commission hereby accepts the offer of Jersey Cares to provide volunteers and materials for a community clean-up to be held on May 2, 2015 and authorizes the Chairman and Clerk to execute the agreement with said organization.

    1. Asbury Park Fishing Club 3rd Annual Carp Contest will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2015 from 7:00 AM to Noon; fish any part of Deal Lake, weigh in before Noon at the Deal Lake Flume. Cash prizes; the Commission by consensus, agreed to sponsor an award for “the greatest number of carp caught”.
    1. Mr. Brockel reported that Senator Beck has a recommendation for a representative on the DLC who is a resident of the Borough of Deal.
    1. Mr. Brockel reminded everyone about the Deal Lake Clean-Up on March 28th at 9:00 AM at the Asbury Park boat ramp.
    1. MTD Clean-outs required at Comstock – Mr. Brockel said that one chamber is full and keeps jamming. He will contact Asbury Park to have them take care of it.
    1. Boom re-installs – to be discussed at the next meeting.
    1. Mr. Brockel reported that the New Jersey Transit retaining wall by the lake is falling apart. It needs to be repaired. The Commission Clerk will draft a letter to New Jersey Transit.
    1. Mr. Brockel said his meeting with Senator Beck went really well. He received very positive feedback from her on our projects. She offered both her support and help to the Deal Lake Commission.

    There were no members of the public present at this meeting. There being no further business, and UPON MOTION by Asbury Park, seconded by Loch Arbour, carried, that the meeting be finally adjourned at 7:45 PM.
