Carp and cash lure anglers to Deal Lake contest

Dave DeGraw of Shark River Hills had a big day at the Third Annual Deal Lake Carp Fishing Contest sponsored by Asbury Park Fishing Club.

His 13.13-pound-carp took the top prize for heaviest fish and his total of six fish on the day won the crown for most carp caught for a cash prize total of $275.

“I never win anything,” said DeGraw, who went 6-for-8 on the number of carp he hooked. “It was just a good day of fishing.”

Making the presentation of the winner’s trophy and check were Asbury Park Mayor John Moor, Joe Pallotto, president of the Asbury Park Fishing Club, Gene Amato, contest weighmaster and club member and Don Brockel, chairman of the Deal Lake Commission.

DeGraw fished in last year’s contest and said he lost a couple of big ones because he was using 2- and 4-pound test line. This year he traded up to 8-pound test and it proved to be a good move.
